Synth / Electronic / Ambient

Popol Vuh's great second album, originally released in 1972. Although they are (rightly) acclaimed for their work after this which ditched the electronics for an acoustic trance style, the two albums they made with the Moogs really are classics of early synth/electronica.

"Sam Prekop and John McEntire are two artists, who together and as individuals, have expanded the definition of rock. Each is acclaimed for their singular musical voice and for their sonic innovations. Beyond their work together in The Sea and Cake, Prekop has garnered acclaim for his solo releases in ensemble or on modular synthesis, as well as for his visual art and photography. McEntire is one of the most celebrated engineers, composers, and drummers (Tortoise) in forward-thinking music. With nearly...

This very nice and contemporary electronic music is what the robots at Wayside Music like to play while they are picking and packing your orders! We thought you might like to hear it too!

"After the slightly more conceptual Principe Del Norte album (2016), Prins Thomas's 5 takes two steps forward and one step back, collecting a batch of tracks that were recorded right after Principe Del Norte and in tandem with the Square One album with Bjørn Torske (2017). A "freedom" album of sorts, beyond the...

“Elemente -- album number seven from the third incarnation of the legendary krautronic project Kluster/Cluster springs a surprise with a minor sensation: sequencer lines. Using an array of exclusively analogue instruments, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Onnen Bock, and Armin Metz have recorded eight tracks which, at one and the same time, are intrinsically hypnotic and sublimely beautiful. In principle, Elemente was created in much the same fashion as earlier Qluster albums: the three musicians met up in...

“Double CD of all five of Elaine Radigue's songs in tribute to the Tibetan saint and poet from the 11th century. Two of the tracks dates from Radigue's first release in 1983, two are previously unreleased and the final 62-minute track was previously issued as a sole CD in 1987. The material is performed by Radigue (synthesizer and recording), Robert Ashley (English voice), and Lama Kunga Rinpoche (Tibetan voice). Radigue was born in France and has studied under Pierre Shaeffer and Pierre Henry; her music...

“11 Dec 80 is a two-CD set containing Eliane Radigue's live performance of Chry-Ptus (1971), her first work for modular synthesizer, and the world premiere of parts one and three of Triptych (1978). Triptych part 2 is also performed. Upon hearing these performances for the first time in many years, Radigue declared them to be the best versions she'd ever heard. Radigue's sublime renderings of these major pieces are full of illusory stasis, slow change, and dense, slow-motion drone that has characterized...

After much, much too long silent, the stunningly prolific R.M.I. return with another set of wonderment.

"This hour long collage of Radio Massacre International material consists of previously unreleased material from various sessions between 2003-15, and might be seen as their version of `The Faust Tapes' in its construction. Endlessly fascinating, playing as a continuous suite, it is an unpredictable journey through many of the places RMI have found themselves in whilst working and improvising...

“Tripping across light years and well-paced between interludes of movement and stasis, Radio Massacre International's sound of the future may draw from the past, but remains unsurpassed in the electronic music of the present.” – AllMusic

"This set of six discs – previously collected in a box, but now only available individually - is a collection, arranged more-or-less chronologically, of things that we've never released in any form before.
It consists of recordings made between 1987-2003, using unreleased material to tell an alternative story of the earlier years of the band.
As well as a set of thematically related artworks, each sleeve is fully annotated on the reverse with sleeve notes detailing the origins of each piece"

“In 2011 Radio Massacre International made their first appearance at St Clements church in Chorlton, Manchester. The gig has been documented on a [long out of print] DVD called M21 which featured highlights of the music played that night.
Many people have named this show as possibly their favourite RMI concert performance, and for a while we have thought about releasing it in full together [the DVD of the concert was abbreviated] with some remarkable and unheard recordings made during the preparation..

“This soundtrack a testament to the Radiophonic Workshop’s mastery of sound. At once unnerving, atmospheric, and deeply moving.” - Matthew Holness

“Original soundtrack to a new British horror film by the pioneering UK electronic research lab responsible for Doctor Who and Quatermass. Astonishingly considering their 50 year career scoring for radio and television, this is the first time The Radiophonic Workshop have ever scored a feature film for theatrical release or collaborated on a major score..

NOTE: This is a vinyl-only release.

In 1977/78, within a short time of leaving Soft Machine, Mike Ratledge built a studio and composed music for two ‘art films’, one of them being this film soundtrack, which which utilised a prototype synthesizer which he constructed with his friend Denys Irving [the short, original credits only say: Written & produced by Mike Ratledge on equipment designed by Denys Irving].
This is long-lost, excellent, Terry Riley-esque / Out-Bloody-Rageous...

"Eccentricity in music is tricky in that it's difficult to embrace it in moderation. There's risk of having it come off as either overly (and gratingly) deliberate, or teetering over the precipice into full-blown novelty. Pere Ubu co-founder Allen Ravenstine's Waiting For The Bomb is one of these rare exceptions where peculiarity, nuance and genuine warmth align in such a way that it's perched right on that edge and all the more evocative because of it. One of the album's most striking and disorienting...

This is a very good electronic / space music album. A little bit eerie, as something to do with the pandemic should be!

“Tiempos de Cuarentena (Quarantine Times) is an insight and a testimony on what happened during the global COVID-19 quarantine. An homage for those who, for economic reasons, weren’t able to stay home and had to walk the empty streets instead, risking their own lives during a world pandemic emergency.”

Nice, new, spacey / electronic album from Mexico, with all synthesizers and etc. performed by Alejandro.

"An imaginary soundtrack to a sci-fi movie. Not as cosmic as the Berlin school but definitely influenced by Tangerine Dream and Ashra. You...

“A reissue of Martin Rev's Cheyenne, originally released in 1991. The sphere of Martin Rev's influence and the relevance of his music may well be related to the fact that he was one of the first artists who succeeded in grasping the abstraction of electronic music, infusing it with a sense of immediacy built on raw energy.
Whilst the likes of La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and Kraftwerk were busy digging in the electronic music garden, Martin Rev found inspiration in the...

“A reissue of Martin Rev's Clouds of Glory, originally released in 1985. Martin Rev is best known as one half of the seminal duo Suicide (with Alan Vega). Listening to his solo albums, it becomes clear that Rev was responsible for the group's music.
Clouds of Glory, his second solo effort, was released on the French label New Rose in 1985. Suicide mirrored the reductive and radical traits of the contemporaneous punk scene that was in the process of emerging, but their electronic, minimalist form of...
