Pete Brown was the lyricist for Jack Bruce and even though I love Jack during and post-Cream, I never paid any attention to Pete’s own bands of the same period, wrongly assuming, for no good reason, that they weren’t any good.
When I finally played played Battered Ornaments and Piblokto!, decades and decades later, they were pretty much uniformly great; I know that if I heard this when these tracks were actually recorded in 1969/70, it would have ripped my head off!
I heard hints of things that could be compared to Van der Graaf Generator, Colosseum and most obviously, Family, but this really had it's own, adventurous, late, late 60s sound. Recommended!
