Over the past four decades as staples of Chicago's indie scene, CHEER-ACCIDENT [always capitalized and always with a hyphen] have performed hundreds of shows all over the USA and Europe and have released dozens of albums.

While they have always been a band with a ‘floating membership’, the last few years have seen the band very impressively touring with an expanded line-up of between 7-10 members.

This set includes their new studio album and two live concerts from 2022 and 2023 [with that expanded personnel] on the group’s first-ever DVD [also their first-ever live release].

“You Smile — The Song Is Over is CHEER-ACCIDENT’s 27th full-length release. It is an ambitious little monster, with lots of density and lots of sprawl, and it’s the perfect catalyst to force you out of your idiotic, culturally imposed ADD stupor. You Smile is, by turns, both meditative and adventurous, and we don’t see why you would want to leave your couch and/or headphones for a very long time.

Our last couple releases could very well be considered "pop" (at least in a post-Bacharach/post-Beatles/post-Motown/post-'80s Britsynth manner). Well, this ain't that. It's probably the most "kitchen sink" we've gotten since Enduring The American Dream (1997). It's a mouthful/brainful/heartful, and you will want to don your stake-out-some-time-fuck-tiny-attention-spans cap.

You Smile — The Song Is Over, an hour-long investment of your time, is perhaps the most potent example in recent memory of a work that oscillates between the poles of “When will it end?” and “I hope it never ends.” And, so, it’s quite possible that, after the hour is up, you will decide to play it again. And it will be a mistake. And then it will be the best decision you ever made. And so on.
Just to pile on some more “embarrassment of riches,” this package also includes a DVD with live performances from the CheerAx Basement (2022) and Reggie’s (2023). This is the first time that any live video or audio material by C-A has been officially released.”
