“It was slow to get started and I nearly gave up on them but after a few plays it suddenly 'clicked' and it has since become one of my most played and playable albums. Every track has an engaging melody and the album rolls along beautifully from start to finish without a hiccup.
The comparisons to the early "Fairport Convention" or "The Trees" are justified as they are mining the same musical areas, while never sounding like pale imitators(or imitators at all). There is a good mix of folk-informed styles ranging from distinctly English to a more trans-Atlantic/San francisco vibe. Does it matter that they aren't breaking new ground? Well in a way they are, as the songs are(mostly)new and of a very high quality throughout.
If I had to say the album has a weakness it is that it lacks an absolute killer track like 'Meet on the Ledge' or 'Sally Free and Easy' but then you have to remember this is their first album. It's certainly better than the 'Fairport' debut. The (female) singer has been criticised, by some, for not being as gifted as Sandy Denny(how many are)but as she has her own distinct style, and a lovely voice at that, I don't think it's a problem.
Overall I would say this is a very good album that should appeal to anyone who doesn't mind a bit of folk in their rock or vice versa.
Sad to say I find this is likely to be the only album as I understand the band has now split up. I, for one, will miss that follow-up album.”-William J Walker
