The oeuvre of Ekseption, one of the most idiosyncratic progressive rock bands in Dutch music history, is honored with the 13-CD box set Planet Ekseption.
After several name and lineup changes since 1958, Ekseption debuted in 1966 with the single "Ekseption At ABC." In 1967 and 1968, Ekseption released two singles on the Imperial label, but their big breakthrough came in 1969 when the band signed a contract with Philips, where their self-titled debut album was released. The album immediately garnered international recognition. What followed was a successful period, with the band releasing six albums over a period of over three years, each one a success.
By this time, keyboardist Rick van der Linden had taken over the band's musical direction. In 1973, however, he was kicked out of the band by the remaining members, leaving only Rein van den Broek and Cor Dekker of the original members.
The albums that followed van der Linden's departure failed to match the success of their predecessors. Several reunions with varying lineups followed in later years. Cor Dekker (2005), Rick van der Linden (2006), and Rein van den Broek (2015) have all passed away. The band's musical legacy is now collected in this box set.
The band's first nine albums, released by Philips, have been remastered solely from the original master tapes. The other three albums have been remastered from the best possible sources.
The bonus disc, featuring non-album singles and B-sides, includes, for the first time since its release in 1966, the three tracks from the debut single, also remastered from the original tapes.”
