Recorded and released in 1967, the Don Ellis Orchestra (21 pieces) pioneered the use of electronic sound processing and adopted experimental harmonies and ‘far out’ time signatures.
Ellis invented and used a four valve trumpet and he and other members of the band utilized early electronic effects which were still very much in their infancy, such as ring modulator.
