“There’s something very comforting about Grobschnitt, particularly the trilogy of Jumbo, Rockpommel’s Land and Merry-Go-Round. The material on these albums is relaxed and rich; never showy. In fact Grobschnitt seemed to avoid being pompous, like many symphonic prog bands, by virtue of humor and perhaps Stefan Danielak’s compelling vocal style. By Merry-Go-Round the band seem to have settled into a comfortable approach more accomplished than Jumbo while perhaps less ambitious than Rockpommel’s Land. There is another more Krautrock side to Grobschnitt in their Solar Music journey, but aside from a sprinkle of kooky humor, it is not here on these three albums.
As a change of pace from the edgy prog classics Grobschnitt deliver a more tranquil yet convincing alternative.”
