“I was fortunate to stumble upon this 2022 release of an early work by Micheal O'Domhnaill and Mick Hanly - both great musicians. Since its first release in the early seventies this record never saw the light of day again, as the master tapes were believed to be lost in a fire. Happily, tapes were recovered in France which led to the rerelease of this fine album mostly consisting of traditionals arranged by the pair - with a healthy amount of bonus tracks thrown in as well.
The first track, an early version of Fionnghuala which resurfaced on a Bothy Band record, made an immediate impression and it was clear I was in for a treat. The musicians accompanying these two men should be an indication of the quality here: Planxty greats Donal Lunny, Matt Molloy and Liam O'Flynn, as well as O'Domhnaill's sister Triona.”-Hans Wigman

“Originally released in 1974 on Polydor Records, Mick Hanly & Mícháel O Domhnaill's Celtic Folkweave is considered one of the most seminal albums in the Irish traditional music genre.
The album features some of Ireland's most well-regarded traditional musicians, including Mick Hanly, Mícháel O Domhnaill, Liam O'Flynn, Matt Molloy, Donal Lunny, Tommy Peoples, Declan McNeils & Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill. All of the musicians on 'Celtic Folkweave' would go on to make notable contributions to the Irish and Celtic music genres, with Molloy, Lunny, Ní Dhomhnaill, O Domhnaill, and Peoples ending up in The Bothy Band, one of the most influential bands playing Irish traditional music in the 1970s.”
