Harrison, Joel - Guitar Talk Vol. 2 : Music for Two Guitars 2 x CDs

SKU AGS 008
“Disc One: Harrison’s ambitious music for classical guitar duo, performed by Daniel Lippel and Fareed Haque. This is Harrison’s first collection of fully notated work for classical guitar, with all his customary lyricism, virtuosity and imagination. Influences include Ralph Towner, Egberto Gismonti, and 20th century classical composers such as Lennox Berkley.

Disc Two: Jazz and new music duos from Harrison with partners Mike Stern, Nels Cline, Camila Meza, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Anthony Pirog, Brad Shepik, and Gregg Belisle-Chi. Harrison plays numerous axes throughout, including both electric and acoustic 12 string, a vintage Gibson SG, a vintage Telecaster, and his Paul Reed Smith. The effect is an all-encompassing essay of what is possible with electric guitar. Tones, moods, approaches move and morph through this singular collection of empathetic voices.

Guitarist and composer Joel Harrison has worn many hats over the decades, but the common thread remains his tireless dedication. Whether he’s orchestrating and performing his own far-reaching compositions, founding and curating festivals and summer camps, running a label, authoring books on American guitar music, hosting podcasts and keeping in touch with fans and fans-to-be via Patreon and Substack, Joel Harrison goes about the work with a singular commitment, with genuine consuming interest and passion. And as guitar-centric as it all is, the work is ultimately about more: “It’s about people, and creating community, trying to serve the interests of creative music and shine a light on what makes American music so special,” Harrison declares. “Because the guitar is American music.”
