“Dense Band returns in this newly remastered 40th Anniversary edition, celebrating one of David Moss's most groundbreaking recordings. Originally released in 1985, the album marked a defining moment in the career of the innovative vocalist, percussionist, composer, and performance artist, whose work has long occupied the intersection of improvisation, noise, experimental rock, and contemporary composition.
After establishing himself within New York's Downtown music scene, Moss assembled the Dense Band to explore a new vision that fused adventurous experimentation with irresistible rhythmic drive.
Produced by legendary guitarist and experimental pioneer Fred Frith, who also performs on the recording, Dense Band blends live electronics, inventive percussion, theatrical vocals, free improvisation, and tightly constructed songs into a sound unlike anything of its era. The album moves fluidly between groove, abstraction, and controlled chaos, demonstrating Moss's singular ability to unite complex musical ideas with infectious energy.”
