“This 4 CD collection has brief notes on recording sessions, bios of musicians and info on the music scene in general. Also included are dates, place and personnel for the recordings. CDs A, C and D include Charlie Poole on all the songs. CD B has Poole on the first four songs; the rest are the North Carolina Ramblers with Bob Hoke replacing Poole on banjo. Poole ws very influential - especially on Earl Scruggs, and on the development of Bluegrass too. The music has instrumentals that show off the skills of the players. Some noise can be heard on some songs, but the age of the recordings doesn't allow for the best audio quality following modern standards. A great collection of string band music.”
