“Chapter Two: Leon marks the second release from Sentimental Mercenaries, comprising seven tracks.
"Leon" was originally conceived as a tribute to Marillion during the Fish era. However, as the band explains, the album ultimately took a direction of its own—despite clear parallels—in order to tell Leon's story. The result is an introspective journey into the inner world of a tormented identity, grappling with emotional pain, passion, and memories.
The name "Sentimental Mercenaries" is drawn from the lyrics of the song "Fugazi," from the Marillion album of the same name. The band consists of Gil Elkan (drums and lyrics), Dor Levin (bass, keyboards, and composition), Yocahi Moyal (guitar), and Italian vocalist Marco Vincini—known for the Marillion tribute band Mr. Punch—whose vocal style is unmistakably reminiscent of Fish.
One thing becomes clear right from the start: despite the striking resemblance to Marillion—just listen to the opener, "The Knot," where Vincini’s Fish-esque vocals soar over an outstanding melody—Sentimental Mercenaries succeed in forging a musical style of their own alongside their influences. The tracks, composed by Dor Levin, blend sophistication and a sense of ease with impressive keyboard passages and incisive guitar work.
In short, with "Chapter Two: Leon," Sentimental Mercenaries have delivered an album that is as melodic as it is captivating.”
