“2013 debut album from trumpet player from Nomo. After years of touring, random gigs and session work as a gifted player, Walter spent a couple years intensively exploring the Electronic Valve Instrument (EVI), an '80s synthesizer/horn hybrid. Building on the loops and textures of the EVI, the album incorporates phasing patterns, the occasional motor like churn of dubbed out drums and considerate passages of trumpet improvisation, calling on Walter's years of experience as an improviser. Longer pieces are bridged by truncated interludes, wandering between modes that are by turns spooky, restless and sublime.”

This record made me feel more intellectual. It is an all-instrumental record with a rhythmic, electronic vibe. Justin Walter makes heavy usage of a vintage "Electronic Valve Instrument" which is like an analog synthesizer which emulates a wind instrument. It sounds kinda like an ARP Pro Soloist to me, from some of those 70's progressive rock albums. A very surreal sound, sweetly maneuvering among the understated and otherworldly loops and rhythms. The stand-out track for me is "Western Tears".” - Tim Miller
