You might not expect it, but this posthumous collection of live tracks, recorded - I believe - on their 1st US tour in 1967, while they were still enjoying each other's company, is one of the best Cream albums. The playing is really hot and amazingly 'out' for 1967. There is a great BBC documentary about the story of jazz into rock, and Jack talks about how he went from being a jazz musician to a rock musician and he says something like "Ginger & I loved jazz; we both conceived of Cream as a free-jazz trio...we just never told Eric that he was Ornette Coleman...."!!! And listening to this, you can hear exactly what Jack means. [Polydor]
