The disc presents the repertory of a group of Santantoniari from Penna SantAndrea, a small hill-town in the province of Teramo in the Abruzzo. Several years ago the town began anew the tradition of the itinerant questua with great enthusiasm and enjoyment, since the custom frames the religious practise as a true moment of celebration and interaction for the inhabitants of the area. The musical pieces were registered live on site with the technique of musical ethnography, during visits to the homes and at the ensuing banquets where the food collected from the donations is consumed. In other words, the spontaneity, the improvisation, the pleasure of being together with friends and singing, playing music, eating, and drinking all characterise the way that the music is executed.
