Cohran, Philip / The Artistic Heritage Ensemble - The Malcolm X Memorial

SKU 28-KATL440.2
Really nice, advanced sounding 'AACM African American heritage meets psychedelia' ensemble, who released a few very hard to find albums of which this is the second to be reissued that I am aware of. This was recorded live on Feburary 25, 1968. Maybe not QUITE as incredible as "On The Beach", which we previously carried until it became unavailable, but still a great album and a missing piece of the AACM puzzle until now. Includes Pete Cosey (later of Miles' great 1973-1975 band).

"Philip Cohran is a Chicago mainstay who was part of Sun Ra's band as a trumpeter from the '50s until Ra left Chicago in 1961. He was also instrumental in helping to create the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), which spawned Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill, Leo Smith, the Art Ensemble of Chicago, and countless others."-Thom Jurek/All Music
