In case some among you doesn't own this, now you have no excuse. This is one of the very cornerstones of the beginning of jazz/rock, progressive music and all that we hold dear.
Made with an amazing cast of players: Miles, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, Larry Young, Jack DeJohnette, Lenny White, John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, etc. etc!
Recorded in just 3 days in August, 1969, and brilliantly edited/shaped by Teo Macero who took Miles' raw materials (and abuse - "Miles, what take is this?" "Who gives a shit, you..." "Okay, okay, okay") and turned it into utter brilliance.
They did a masterful job on this album, turning what was a sorta low-fi classic into a good sounding work, by going back to the original multi-track masters and then re-creating all of the edits and echoes and studio effects that Teo did back in 1969 and doing a bang-up job of it. This has the original album, and two previously never heard alternate takes (Spanish Key and John McLaughlin) a previously unreleased live CD of the band at Tanglewood, MA 8/18/1970 and a DVD of the lost quintet (Chick, Wayne, Miles, Dave, Jack) in Copenhagen, 11/4/69, all in a beautiful hardbound book.
The only reason not to buy this is if you already own it!
