Led by Philippe Lauzier and Alexandre Grogg, Ensemble en pices is an inventive jazz quintet with a velvety yet jagged sound. Here, commanding writing and raw improvisation coexist, striking a firm balance between restraint and spontaneity. This sonic mosaic is mostly the result of each musicians personal contribution: the tight rhythm section of bassist Christophe Papadimitriou and drummer Thom Gossage dialogues with the virtuoso pianist Alexandre Grogg and supports the master blowers Philippe Lauzier (saxes, bass clarinet) and Andy King (trumpet).
