Parker, Charlie - Christmas Eve At Carnegie Hall 1949 (Mega Blowout Sale)

SKU 23-HHCD 3030
This 70 year old concert, in quite good sound for being a 70 year old AM radio broadcast, still has the power to amaze. This has a billion highlights, but worth mentioning are the best sounding live recordings in existence of the famous 1949 Lennie Tristano/Warne Marsh/Lee Konitz sextet and also perhaps THE definitive live version of Bird just CHEWING through Ko Ko.

“Regarded by many as the apex of the bebop era, this remarkable Christmas concert featured a virtual who's-who of contemporary jazz giants, from Miles Davis and Stan Getz to Sarah Vaughan and Max Roach. But it's Charlie Parker who steals the show, with his legendary quintet, culminating in a heart-stopping rendition of "Ko Ko".
Originally broadcast on WMCA Radio as Stars Of Modern Jazz, and MC'd by "Symphony Sid" Torin. The entire broadcast is presented here.”
