Traffic - The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys CD (expanded)

SKU 15-ISL548827.2
Remastered in 2002 with a bonus track! The wonderful psychedelic proto-progressive group Traffic came to a grinding halt sometime in late 1968, when Steve Winwood left the band to join Blind Faith or the band fell apart and he went and joined Blind Faith (not sure which came first). After Blind Faith fell apart, Steve started work on a solo album which, after a little bit of time turned into a Traffic album as Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood came on board to record their reunion album, the very fine John Barleycorn Must Die. So, what to do after that? Why, form a six piece version of Traffic, with Steve Winwood, Chris Wood and Jim Capaldi from the original group, plus Rick Grech (Family and Blind Faith) on violin and bass, Jim Gordon on drums and Reebop Kwaku Baah on percussion. Very obviously Traffic (how could it NOT be Traffic with Steve's perfect and distinctive voice), but with a languid sound that stretches out in a lot of places (especially on the title track, in what might be considered a proto-jam band sound! This was probably their commercial peak in the USA.
