BRI were one of the most important early Danish progressive bands. This was their third release, from 1971. You can hear heavy rock, jazz, proto-progressive & psychedelia all combined here in an interesting, early way. The leader, keyboardist and saxist Karsten Vogel later went on to found the great Danish band Secret Oyster.
"I don't think it is really a jazz rock / fusion kind of progressive. For my personal use I classify it as Cantenbury. They sound like a Soft Machine and Caravan - the same atmosphere and harmonic solutions. If you listen to that record you will remember that sound and music to rest of your life. Beautifull flute and sax interplay, original style of making music, a lot of fun and joy. This is a masterpiece as good as best Caravan and Soft Machine albums and I recommend it to everybody interested in prog."-progarchives
"One of the finest European bands of the progressive era, Burnin Red Ivanhoe formed in Copenhagen in 1967. Signing to Sonet Records in Denmark in December 1969, the band issued their first album "M 144” in 1969. Over the next few years the band’s line-up varied, but they gained many admirers throughout the world, including John Peel (who subsequently signed the band to his Dandelion label). In 1971 the band recorded "W.W.W.” for Dandelion with a line-up of KARSTEN VOGEL (Saxophones, Keyboards), OLE FICK (Guitar), KIM MENZER (Flute, Violin, Trombone), JESS STAEHR (Bass) and BO THRIGE ANDERSEN (Drums).
Burnin’ Red Ivanhoe’s unique fusion of Jazz, Rock and the Avant Garde was as imaginative as anything emerging from the embryonic German rock scene of the time and remains impressive forty years later and their 1971 album "W.W.W.” is one of their finest."
