Carmen were a flamenco-progressive rock band that I always assumed were from Spain, but I am now informed that they were from the UK. OK! Why shouldn't a bunch of people in Spanish-style outfits doing Spanish-styled flamenco rock be from the UK? How silly of me! I actually saw them open for Jethro Tull on the Warchild tour at some point in my mis-spent youth and I don't remember that much about them other than the big number with the flamenco lady-dancer and the pole and the twirling. This reissues their first two albums along with two bonus tracks. "When you say Carmen, everbody goes ”oh, that opera from Bizet!” And a great one it is! But when i mention Carmen, i mean that excellent and very unique folk/prog band hailing from UK! With 3 albums to their name, however the 2 first albums are excellent, the third being ok, but compared to the first and second album, its mediocre!! What you get here, are brilliant musicianship in the form of spanish traditional music (flamingo, guitars, castanets and...would you belive....the recording of Spanish boot stamping in supreme flamingo style!!) and then add some supreme progressive musical ventures such as lead guitars, mellotrons, male and female vocals de Luxe, superb bass and great drumming, to mention a few of the talents displayed here! In this particular case im talking about the first album by Carmen: “Fandangos In Space”. And i promise you, you´we never heard anything like them!! So if you are adventurous and a real progfreak, you absolutely need this gem to fullfill your progcollection!!"-Progplanet.com
