Mass Culture Control Bureau / M.C.C.B - Things From The Past CD (Mega Blowout Sale)

SKU Ad Hoc 01
Totally wonderful round up of all the 7” and EP titles that Geoff Leigh (ex-Henry Cow) released in the late 70s and early 80s. Quite wonderful arty-art-damaged post punk whatever whoo-haa! Recommended.

“Zig-zagged music, the specialty of MCCB. Across a wide spectrum of sound comes minimal electronics, jilted avantpop, artpunx, and progressive music. Some folk in there as well, somehow. This is a very fine collection of Leigh's various musings, and with it his sharp humor and immense talent shines through each track, along with the incredible work of musicians such as Chris Cutler, Fred Frith, and Colin McClure. Also comes with as close as you can get to a comprehensive guide to the bands featured here in the booklet.”-rateyourmusic

Those of us older fellers will remember the various 7" singles and EPs released by Geoff Leigh and associates post-Henry Cow under an assortment of names on the MCCB label.
I especially fondly remember The Chemical Bank EP, which is included here and which I couldn't have imagined would EVER be released on CD!! But here it is, sounding swell!

"This disc compiles the entire back catalog and previously unreleased recordings of the combined Dutch/English underground label, MCCB (1978-82), and marks the first time any of these works have been issued on CD.
Great efforts were made to locate, restore & re-master the original tapes, and the entire process was personally overseen by MCCB's chief, the legendary musician/singer Geoff Leigh. Includes 12 page booklet with much text & photos.
Under the auspices of The Black Sheep, Kontakt Mikrophoon Orchestra and Red Balune, Geoff is joined by long-time affiliates Loek VanSaus, Colin McLure and Kathy Williams. This is “pop” music gone terribly right for a change, where imagery supersedes fashion, and sound knows no rules.
Features cameo appearances by members of Henry Cow: Fred Frith, Tim Hodgkinson and Chris Cutler."
