I can't say that I am particularly knowledgable about Brazilian music in general or even about progressive Brazilian music, but there is a definite strain of progressive Brazilian music, typified by the work of Hermeto Pascoal that I personally find very appealing and also very unique to Brazil. Mente Clara is an instrumental group making their debut here and they perform on reeds, piano/keyboards/accordion, guitar, bass and drums. The music is definitely informed by the fusion/progressive sound of Hermeto's best work, with a busy-yet-relaxed feel and some wonderful, warm melodies and great solos. Terrific interplay between the instruments and a wonderful, warm groove, even while negotiating some rather tricky passages! Absolutely recommended to fans of jazz/rock and Hermeto.
