Oosten, Michael - Michael Oosten CD (expanded) (Mega Blowout Sale)

SKU 18-WG 001
CD edition with three bonus live tracks, of this extremely rare 1974 underground Pop/Folk/Psych album. With a Martin guitar in hand, Oosten took off in the early '70's, playing in coffeehouses and clubs across the country.
By the end of 1973, he was ready to record an LP—five psychedelic folk/rock tracks, ranging from the brightly smiling ‘Sunny Day’ to the epic ‘Hungry Horse Montana,’ where Oost switched seamlessly from Celtic picking to Middle Eastern chord progressions. Oosten filled out his folk/rock/psych sound with the help of a few friends: piano from Tom Hennick on ‘Hey Babe,’ vocals from Jan Reek on ‘Garden,’ and bass from Al Byla on ‘Sunny Day.’ Oosten's wayward vocals puts us in mind of other meandering faves from various eras (Incredible String Band, Perry Leopold, or the Meatpuppets, to name but three), and Oost proves himself a stellar guitarist in an eccentric and percussive mode. .”

“This is something different... rough rough rough rough rough
rough songs, rough but interesting/intricate guitar playing that tends to build in an almost raga-like fashion (influenced by the Takoma boys?), and the voice. The voice is rough, wild, passionate, and completely charming. These songs were written specifically for this man's voice. "Garden" is a good example, in which the chorus depends upon forcefully popping the voice into a higher register and letting it break, creating a sort of half-yodel bleating sound.”-rym
