Steele, Jim - Neptune Rising

SKU MMA-2
Quite nice, self-released, instrumental jazz-rock/progressive album led by keyboardist and composer Jim Steele, with bassist Tim Beeler and drummer Ken Kleej. Steele performs on piano, Fender Rhodes, Hammond organ, clavinet, Oberheim Matrix 6, DSI Evolver and E-Mu classic keys. The rhythm section are not flashy, but are quite solid and support the many keyboards very well. His playing style seems influenced by the jazz/rock greats of the 70s such as Jan Hammer, Kerry Minnear, Chick Corea, George Duke, etc. For what I believe is a first effort, and coming out of Fort Wayne, Indiana - never a hotbed of jazz/rock, this is really quite accomplished and a lot of fun.
