"Single Celled Organism is the new progressive rock project of Jens Lueck. The attentive progVisions reader will recognize this name from my reviews of the albums of his musical partners Isgaard and Volker Kuinke. The later makes music under the moniker Syrinx Call. Jens Lueck has his own Art Of Music Studio and is a respected producer, composer and musician. My first acquaintance with Jens Lueck was at the time when he produced some albums of one of my favorite German bands, Sylvan. To stay with Sylvan...

“In Fa is an enchanting meeting of phantasmagorical improvisation, a dialogue between two generations that makes every expressive boundary overcome. Riccardo Sinigaglia (Futuro Antico) remains faithful to the idea of a collective work, where musicians are only instruments crossed by musical energy. He provides his pioneering experience, with excellent control of electronic sounds, realized with the eternal cosmic Farfisa and the synths (Moog Sonic Six, Synthi EMS). Their lysergic fluidity supports the...

When I was at the tail end of 8th grade, I had been playing guitar for about a year, I had my first electric guitar (a green Univox) and amplifier (also Univox; I was a company man!) and I was in my first band.
We covered as much of this first Sir Lord Baltimore album, which I had had gotten earlier in 8th grade after hearing it on the radio and my grandmother buying it for me(!) as I could muster and we were dreadful, which was a feature, not a bug.
Sunken pirate ship made of bones and all on..

“Six Organs of Admittance takes listeners through an extended narcoleptic journey on Sleep Tones, an all-electronic double album of new ambient work.
Mastered by VDSQ labelmate Chuck Johnson, Sleep Tones was made with a specific effect in mind. These new sounds from the Six Organs universe represent an essential creative shift from one of the great guitarists of the 21st century, showcasing his ever-evolving palate. An antidote to modern overload, Sleep Tones provides a welcome stasis. In its...

“With Time is Glass, Six Organs of Admittance is captured once again in the intricate tangle of the fretboards, soaring in open skies above. Like lens flare cutting through the speakers; spiderwebs cracking the windshield that holds back all the onrushing reality. Blowing the dust away, cutting a new path for cognition. After 20 years of living on the road in different places, Six Organs of Admittance had returned home to Humboldt County -- a far country, to some, but still part of the world through...

German heavy classical rock duo formed aptly in 1969. They had an aggressive rock style, mixing in classical and avant-garde elements.
This is the first-ever legitimate reissue of either of their two albums in any format!

“The sole studio album by this interesting Kraut duo, originally from 1972, sees a welcome reissue on vinyl. Sixty Nine played a mixture of symphonic prog and Krautrock, dominated by appealing vocals, exceptional Hammond organ outings and powerful drumming. Whether you like.

“From Guy Skornik, the composer and arranger behind Popera Cosmic and Pour Pauwels (1971), comes the enigmatic instrumental cues that provided fellow existentialist and notorious auteur director Alejandro Jodorowsky (The Holy Mountain, 1973) with the soundtrack music to what is now considered his rarest and most overlooked feature film, Tusk (1980).
The label present the original film edits from the 1979 studio sessions featuring Steve Hillage (Gong) and members of Cossi Anatz. Following his...

"LP of kosmische synth-explorations from the Causa Sui drummer. Doppler is the as-of-yet most conceptual album in El Paraiso Records' "Impetus" series, which is the label's imprint of improvisation and chance collaborations. On Doppler, Jakob Skott utilizes two synthesizers and a chain of effects. That's it. This may sound like a tedious exercise, but for an album mostly spliced together by layers and layers of first takes and unexpected real-time peaks and turns, there is a unique sense of both...

"Causa Sui drummer Jakob Sktt is back with the third installment in his "drums versus synthesizers" explorations. Fully indulging in this strange form of layered solo jams, these tracks are alive in a very real sense -- there's an organic vibe present in which monophonic synthesizers and polyphonic rhythms merge in a way you've never heard before. Any reference to other music and genres gets warped and turned on its head, quicker than you can catch onto it, as everything is weaved together in a...

"Causa Sui drummer Jakob Sktt returns with his second full-length under his own name. Taking the leap from his debut Doppler'sintrovert kosmische synthesizer dronescapes, diving into a full-blown mad scientist one-band mode, Jakob straps on a wide...

“Causa Sui drummer and El Paraiso visual designer Jakob Skøtt unleashes his most personal vision to date, Instrumentality. His one-man-band formula of synths, drums, and effects serves him as well as ever. This latest set is Skøtt at his most ripe; the grooves are deeper, more stripped down to essentials, yet maintain the vibrant seamless mix of airy timing, drowning drones, and sludgy synth riffs. The album was recorded a few months after Jakob experienced a brief, yet painful spontaneous leak of brain...

"The third album from Causa Sui drummer Jakob Sktt expands his one-man-band experiments into vast new territories. Taurus Rising is built from motorik synthesizer arpeggios and heavy-duty live drumming. But rather than simply worshipping endless...

"Guitarist and composer Terje Rypdal (1947) is probably as close as one gets to a living legend in Norwegian music. He has received a number of awards, including three Norwegian Grammies (Spellemannpris), the last being the honorary award in 2005.
Sky Music is a heartfelt celebration of an inspirational artist and truly unique guitarist who hasn't fully received the due credit and recognition he deserves for over 50 years of music making.
Initiated by the experimental US guitarist and lifelong..

"A vinyl-only release of two epic outtakes that didn't make the main album, Sky Music: A Tribute To Terje Rypdal, due to lack of space.

“Limited edition (500 copies) reissue of Slave's The Lover, The Madman And The Poet, originally released in 1970 only as an acetate.
Comes with printed cardboard sleeve and white paper non-antistatic inner sleeve. Titles and band credits are not listed on the release since the musicians were untraceable.”

“British acetate and private pressing LPs dating from 1965-78, the most valuable LPs that exist. This is the.

“Meeting somewhere in a place in time and space occupied by Pink Floyd and Ashra - spacey and meditative instrumentals from Berlin guitarist Mathias Rosmann. 'Ride The Horizon' is the 8th album of Sleeping Pandora. The sound trademark are lengthy guitar improvisations, embedded in a more electronic spacey environment, which will take your mind on a beautiful journey.
Bluesy guitar licks alternate with ambient like structures, while preserving the rocky jamming vibe. 'Ride The Horizon' offers endless...

Third excellent studio release by this outrageous and surprising outfit. I hear significantly less metal (although it's still there, of course) this time around, which is a bit surprising and more 'out rock' parts. Pretty damn brilliant. Recommended.

"Rock-against-Rock pioneers Sleepytime Gorilla Museum celebrate the extremes of sonic debilitation, with this muffled cry into the dark night of the soul. Triumphantly smothered within the intricate stylings of musical evolution, the expansive...

Just a quick note; even though the band was inactive for over a decade, this is them finishing up their mission; the tracks were composed and recording started in 2010-2011, before their inactivity. So it is 100% them with no compromises due to intervening years. Recommended. No one else even remotely sounds like them.

“After thirteen years of hibernation, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, the most gloriously uncategorizable American band in existence, has emerged from stasis to proudly announce the...

Excellent progressive/jazz-rock band from Montreal who recorded two extremely well regarded and hugely sought-after albums in the mid 1970s and who then basically disappeared without a trace. To me, they combine elements of Canterbury jazz-rock with certain passages that resemble (instrumental) Gentle Giant and other good music of that era. Highly recommended.

Authorized reissue of the first album by Smash, originally released by Philips in 1970, and the first professonal band of Gualberto Garcia.

“Smash was a Spanish progressive rock band founded in Seville (Spain) in 1968, which gained popularity through the Spanish underground scene. It was one of the pioneers of Andalusian rock, fusing the progressive rock of bands such as King Crimson (or psychedelic, like Vanilla Fudge) with the traditional flamenco music of Andalusia. Smash was one of the key..

“New primitive-suburban-folk music from Temple City and Pasadena, CA, circa 1973-4. This new edition is culled from the original unissued Smegma tape vaults of Ju Suk Reet Meate and represents the most pure expression of the insular sound-world that was spontaneously discovered as a group.
Unlike 2017's Look'n For Ya, no song forms are ever used, instead fearless group improvisational vocals take you on a strange shape-shifting journey through operatic show tunes, spirit visions and visits to a...

"Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith composes bright, fluid soundscapes on a variety of synthesizers, most notably the Buchla Music Easel. Excited by the endless possibilities of electronic instruments, her music is filled with vivid, expressive melodies along with her warped, ethereal vocals. Smith grew up on the serene, peaceful Orcas Island in northwest Washington, and attended the Berklee College of Music in order to study composition and sound engineering. She started out as a vocalist before taking up....

An incredible price on an official reissue of one of the most obscure releases on the already quite obscure Chatham Square label. This one trickled out in 1975!

“Musician, visual artist, composer, writer, and sculptor Michael Snow is also one of the world's most highly acclaimed experimental filmmakers. In 1975 he released this album under the record company Chatham Square. The label was founded by the owner of Michael Snow's gallery, the Bykert Gallery, which also issued the first Philip...

A fine jazz/rock release with some (probably inadvertent) Canterbury touches and a whole that will remind some of Pekka Pohjola. Really nice!

The 70s was a very hectic period for me as alongside different band projects I also worked as a studio musician. This album was something I needed to do, a break from all of it, something of my own, my artistic statement", says Nono Sderberg, looking back.
The mid 1970s was an interesting period in Finnish music. The first wave of Finnish progressive..

Tom Hasslan (Krokofant) – guitars
Axel Skalstad (Krokofant) – drums
Trond Frones (Red Kite, Grand General) - bass
Vegard Lien Bjerkan (WIZRD) - keyboards.

“Ever wondered what it would sound like if Jimi Hendrix joined Deep Purple pursuing to sound like Gentle Giant, and then failing miserably because of too much jazz consumption lately? Didn't think so, but anyhow Soft Ffog's sound is unique, and draws parallels to the aforementioned acts in somewhat style, compositions and...

First-time ever on vinyl!

This is pretty great to see - finally a full length recording by this very short lived lineup of Soft Machine where after Robert left the band, Elton finally got his dream of having the Softs become something close to a...

Elton Dean – Alto sax, saxello
Lyn Dobson – Soprano and tenor sax, flute, harmonica, vocals
Hugh Hopper – Bass
Mike Ratledge – Hohner Pianet, Lowrey Holiday Deluxe organ
Robert Wyatt – Drums, vocals

"A love affair with France preserved on film - shot with tangible cinematic flair at Paris' photogenic Theatre De La Musique in March 1970, this superb quality live footage of the Softs at their freewheeling peak was originally broadcast on..

Elton Dean: alto sax, saxello, Hohner pianet
Hugh Hopper: bass
Mike Ratledge: Hohner pianet, Lowrey Holiday Deluxe organ, Fender Rhodes
Robert Wyatt: drums, vocals

While the two sets from the second night (February 28, 1971) have been released before, this is the first time that the entire two-night stand has been released. So half of this is previously completely..

Second album of aggressive electric jazz, instrumental prog and funky basswork.

“Guitarist Bon Lozaga (Gongzilla, Gong) bassist Ryan Martinie (Mudvayne) and drummer Mitch Hull once again worked with producer Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me) and a cast of guest players to create their new release.
"Glint" is another instrumental driven album with many flavors and even features violin and a full horn section on several tracks, expanding the bands signature sound of fusion, metal...

SMALL SEAM SPLIT TO SPINE OF JACKET, not too bad, juts not totally perfectThis is the vinyl version of STG's 1st album; it has an alternative cover (not shown) and includes some different versions of pieces to the ones on the CD version.

I first heard of STG from my old, old pal, Shawn Persinger (of Boud Deun) who asked me if I had heard guitarist Bon Lozaga's (of Gonzilla & Gong)) new band, because 'I just saw them and they're fantastic'!
So, I kept my ears open and also...

First-ever legit reissue of a incredibly rare (and incredibly weird / incredibly stoned-to-the-max) release on the incredibly collectable GUMP label in 1971. Includes a booklet with lots of photos and in-depth liner notes. A limited edition of only 600...

Toti Soler is a guitarist who may be best known for his work on the great Jordi Sabates album Ocells Del Mes Enlla. El Gat Blanc is instrumental, Flamenco-progressive stuff, with bass, drums and percussion! This is the first-ever reissue of this album on vinyl!

“Toti Soler's second album, together with Sabicas, Smash from 1971-72, and the recording Paco de Lucía made with jazzman Pedro Iturralde, were seminal in creating flamenco fusion, a blend that has travelled far. Soler's syncretism between...

This is a legit reissue of this very, very obscure album. It came out on CD and was immediately deleted and I have never seen it on CD, although it theoretically exists. This is the vinyl version which is also hard to find, but not impossible....

Richard Rousselet (trumpet, flugelhorn, percussion)

“This first vinyl offering by a sporadically 20-something years unit, still extant, originally assembled under the name Cinema Soloriens by filmmaker/musician James Harrar in 1993, to play accompaniment to his films. The line-up usually includes legendary Sun Ra alto master (and current Arkestra leader) Marshall Allen with Harrar (who is also known for his work with Arthur Doyle and Daevid Allen), plus whoever else is tapped.
For this date, recorded in Nashville back in 2016, the quartet was...

“Som Imaginário are the stuff of MPB mythos. Integral to Brazil's Clube Da Esquina movement in the early 1970s, a heady blend of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, jazz, and traditional Brazilian rhythm flows through the three studio albums the band recorded between '70 and '73. Flying the countercultural freak-flag amid the context of military dictatorship, the Brazilian prog lords shared much of the sense of experimentation and bountiful fuzz bequeathed by their tropicalismo forbearers. But armed...

Beautiful gatefold sleeve and over 18' of bonus live material not found on the CD edition!

"Sonar has defied the norm by crafting something singular and magical." – The Buffalo News ...

"Sonar's fourth release Vortex reflects the sound of surprise. After three uncompromising quartet albums exploring the edges of minimalist groove, the Swiss group has partnered with renowned guitarist, composer and producer David Torn for it's RareNoise debut.
The band, comprised of guitarists Stephan Thelen and Bernhard Wagner, bassist Christian Kuntner and drummer Manuel Pasquinelli have long been celebrated for combining the visceral power and dynamics of art rock with a minimalist aesthetic....

"Into The Long Night is the second album by The Sonic Dawn, one of the most remarkable bands to come out of the new psychedelic wave in Denmark. Just a few seconds into this album, you will realize that you are in for a mind altering experience. "It's a trip! By taking the listeners to places they didn't expect to go, we hope to make them aware -- that they'll stop up and think about life for a minute. Awareness is the first step to change in the world," says guitarist and vocalist Emil Bureau...

“Album formatted collection of underheard Sonic rarities from the legendary band’s 2000-2010 era, most for the first time on any physical format.
Essential for the band’s hardcore fans and for enthusiasts of instrumental rock.”

“The group’s final U.S. show, a triumphant and blistering bookend to the storied career of one of the most influential bands in rock music, featuring a unique and expansive eighty-five minute set list that spans Sonic Youth's nearly three decade catalog.
Mixed from the multitrack tapes by longtime live engineer Aaron Mullan and mastered and cut by Carl Saff.”

"Culled from three 1985 gigs in the UK during a transitional and transcendent time in the band's story, Sonic Youth's The Walls Have Ears appeared/disappeared as a 2LP set in 1986, not just a live album but an artful tapestry full of live experimentation with songs, between-song tape segues, darkness, humor and audio verité. It's now issued for the first time officially under the band's auspices."

"In this 2LP set brimming with primitive classics like 'The Burning Spear,' 'Death Valley 69,' and...

“Re.sort was conceived by Sora aka Takeshi Kurosawa. Soothing cut-ups and analog collages for dreamers in the summer breeze, Re.sort is a miracle of Japanese electronica. Widely unknown but very necessary, fragments and textures playfully flirt with each other, bossa nova and jazz records float in the air, an old phonograph sits by the sea. Leftfield electronica that feels like a home away from home, where joyful nothings are everything combining with sweet minimalism and micro melodies. Sora means sky...

"Nicklas Sørensen's second solo effort away from his main stint as guitar player in Papir is a more placid, blissful listen than his first solo venture from 2016.
On this set Nicklas digs deep into his love for vintage new age music, Brazilian bossa nova, and the electronic side of kosmische, while still paying homage to the guitar heroes that have shaped his playing throughout the years, such as Vini Reilly, Manuel Göttsching, and Michael Rother.
Produced in collaboration with Causa Sui and...

"Solo is the first solo album from Papir guitarist Nicklas Srensen. While there are certain similarities with the oeuvre Srensen has created with Papir, it quickly becomes apparent that this is something quite different. Throughout Solo, the Copenhagen native explores his primary instrument, the guitar, as a generator of otherworldly sounds, as a compositional tool, and -- perhaps most importantly -- as a transmitter of pristine, cascading melodies. There's a peaceful, savory quality to the album that...

"A very important artist from Naples, Alan Sorrenti released his first album in 1972 on Harvest. He had a welsh mother and had spent much time in Wales as a child.
His first album, Aria is a very nice album, with two different sides...
The album was successful, and Alan Sorrenti was one of the few solo artists to compete with prog groups in the open air festivals of the time. The album was also issued abroad, but with little success.
A second album, with the long title of Come un vecchio...

“First ever reissue on vinyl.
After nearly twenty years of work, finally a proper reissue of this sought-after album by The Souls Of Inspyration, first released on Columbia in 1970. Sought after, yes - and deservedly so, with stellar keyboard-driven, melodic songs, strong vocals, and an overall sense of cohesion.
Terrific acoustic driven songs like 'Eyes Of Nature' and 'Sun Shines In The Winter' merge beautifully with hard-edged, progressive-tinged offerings like 'Dil Kusha (Heart's Happiness)..

Rafael Toral acoustic and electronic feedback, amplifier, direction | Hugo Antunes double bass | Nuno Morão drums and percussion | Nuno Torres alto saxophone, electronic instrument

"Electronic music with a human touch – that’s what Rafael Toral proposed himself to do when he started with the Space Program. Or electro-acoustic music, to be more exact, because his adapted amplifiers and other feedback and sinusoidal devices are combined with conventional instruments, played by fellow Portuguese...
