Blood's second album, from way, way back in 1980, this is a classic of avant/punk/out/jazz/harmolidics, although nothing will ever touch "Captain Black". It's in print but only in Japan and is EXTREMELY hard to find, but we got 'em but only this one last time!!

"Guitarist James "Blood" Ulmer has been heard in many contexts, covering Ornette Coleman on the fantastic, muted Music Speaks Louder Than Words, playing gritty soul blues on the aptly monikered Forbidden Blues. But this 1980 set captures....

U Totem were the avant-rock supergroup that combined personnel from Los Angeles' 5uu's and Motor Totemist Guild. They existed between 1998 - 2004 and released two albums, of which this is the second. Since his time in U Totem, drummer/composer Dave Ker...

“The closest thing to Henry Cow in complexity...world class playing & singing...there is nothing else like this now.” – Chris Cutler

“U Totem is characterized by unsurpassed technique and perfect sound; in addition, this music is well written & well orchestrated...this must surely be the CD of the year!” –Gateavisa

U Totem is the combination of the 5uus & the Motor Totemist Guild. This pairing has brought out the best parts of both bands, combining the abstraction & lyricism of the.

“Un Drame Musical Instantané were founded in 1976, featuring Jean-Jacques Birgé, Bernard Vitet and Francis Gorgé. Their aim was to promote collective musical creation, co-signing their albums, which they consider as artworks in themselves, or their live shows which they tried to renew every time they played.
Their sound was created with many influences: They borrowed their sources from rock (synthesizer player Birgé and guitarist Gorgé, both authors of the album, Défense de); jazz (trumpeter Vitet...

John Wetton-bass, vocals
Allan Holdsworth-guitar
Bill Bruford-drums

This well known live recording is taken from a broadcast recorded September 11, 1978 from Boston, MA on the band’s first US tour.
It was previously available as part of the super-duper-deluxe-oh U.K. box set that is no longer in print and this is, sadly, the only trace of UK in print outside of Japan
It’s also the band with Allan and Bill, which was, imo, by far the.

“Among the best Italian progressive rock bands of the third millennium, the Milanese 5-piece Ubi Maior are undoubtedly worthy of mention; today, with their fourth album "Bestie, Uomini e Dèi" (Beasts, Men and Gods), they celebrate their twentieth anniversary.
All the experience gathered in the group's long career has been poured into these six brand new tracks; in contrast to the previous record "Incanti Bio Meccanici", characterized by long and complex suites, its successor reduces the songs length...

Ubi Maior is a relatively new Italian group working in the style of classic progressive rock. This is their second album and unlike the first, which strictly channeled the Italian sound, this still takes major cues from P.F.M. and Il Balletto di Brozno...

This is drummer Yoshida Tatsuya (Ruins, Koenjihyakei, Korekyojinn), guitarist Uchihashi Kazuhisa (Altered States, Ground Zero) and pianist Mishiba Satoshi (who plays in the rock band "Kinniku Syojotai", who are a major, big band in Japan). This is ten...

Really happy to have this great, second release by this fantastic French/Ethiopian mash-up back in stock and at a better price than before too. You NEED this!
The second, totally great and smokin' French/Dutch/Ethiopian band who call themselves "Ethiopian crunch music". Using guitars, keyboards, sax, bass, drums and a Ethiopian singer, they use the Ethiopian pop sounds of Mahamoud Ahmed as a staring point and then they stretch it using punk, rock and even noise influences. Wonderful stuff. Highly...

“Yeketelale is the third album from Franco-Ethiopian group uKanDanz, combining a heady brew of rock energy, saxophone zigzags and Ethiopian melodies, all fronted by veteran singer Asnake Gebreyes grooving harder than ever.

Spotted by Francis Falceto uKanDanZ was invited to perform at the “Ethiopian International Music

"In today's increasingly barren rock and roll landscape, Ulan Bator stand as beacons of explorative songwriting. Formed in Paris in 1993 by Amaury Cambuzat (vocals, guitar and keyboards) and Olivier Manchion (bass), the band's atmospheric approach to composition has consistently yielded guitar-driven, avant-rock at once hypnotic and untamed. And while their sound has developed in a variety of directions - often in relationship to changing line-ups and various collaborations, including with Faust and...

You never heard of Matt Ulery unless you live in Chicago and are quite tuned in. I know this because I never heard of Matt Ulery either until very recently, when someone we are about to work with had him contact us. Matt is a young bassist and....

“It is no longer startling to hear tubes and valves channelling breath and imagination into such fine gradations of utterance. The process of deterritorialization from the trumpet's inherited identity is too far advanced to spring major surprises. The pleasure of listening to Hautzinger and Ulher together lies in the success of their creative interaction, the synergetic uplift of their shared and distinct techniques, their spontaneous responses and intuitive leaps. Prolonged introspection blossoms into...

“Leonel Kaplan plays the trumpet exclusively by focusing his approach on the rustling of the air column, the metaphysics of the tubes in a way (to paraphrase Amelie Nothomb): by playing with multiple pressure levels of the lips and the meticulous closure of the orifices with the pistons, he obtains a range of nuances, dynamics, noise, stamps rather leaded than copper, as they evoke piping.
Birgit Uhler, replies by adding to his remarkable work on the trumpet, the use of a radio, a speaker and...

Lisa Ullén - piano
Elsa Bergman - double bass
Anna Lund - Drums

“Ullén/Bergman/Lund is a piano trio based in Stockholm that plays free jazz that channels the American free jazz tradition as well as contemporary classical music. Combining raw power with an exquisite attention to detail, the three musicians make every moment sparkle with possibilities. In this aural space, every movement matters.
Ullén and fellow Swedes Bergman and Lund are all significant players in the...

“Recorded and issued in 1982, Black Rock was James Blood Ulmer's second Columbia album, a follow-up to the previous year's Free Lancing. This was also Blood's first attempt to take the harmolodic jazz of Ornette Coleman and marry it directly to rock's visceral appearance and funk's in-the-pocket groove.
Certainly all his records from Captain Black on displayed this penchant in varying degrees, but all were linked to the deep exploration of harmolodic's scalular heights and unknown territories...

James Blood Ulmer: guitar
Mats Gustafsson: tenor & baritone saxophone
Ingebrigt Håker Flaten: electric & double bass
Paal Nilssen-Love: drums, percussion

This places Blood in front of a smokin', crazy band of youthful equals and makes for the best and most 'out' album he's made in years and years!

“ULTRAPHAUNA is a newborn band of art-rock veterans whose wide-eyed, wriggling form is born of the music of Timba Harris (violin, trumpet) and Dorothy Wave (vocals, synths).

Fun, zippy, and very obviously a Dur et Doux band!

“ULTRA ZOOK is an unusual rock trio, first of all there is no guitar but a keyboard, then they don't play like maniacs, and finally they don't pout when they play... it's with a sparkling and mischievous eye that they interpret their songs whose originality is equalled only by the philosophical depth of the text.
To make dance the zumba by using tunes of traditional music from Auvergne, to make advance the society with deep philosophical...

“Umbra’s story is that of a band from the early 1970’s who recorded what they wanted to record: heavy, heavy music from the start of the “American Comedown Era” as we’ve seen it described by our friends for their “Brown Acid” series; a band whose music, terrific though it is, has never to this point been released out into the wide world.
The tracks are hard-edged and heavy, verging on acid rock at times, which makes sense, as Umbra was a power trio most of their too-brief existence. Yet the songs...

"A Travail Egal Salaire Egal was Un Drame Musical Instantane's third album, originally released in 1982 on the group's own GRRR label.

"Outstanding Instrumental Sympho Prog Rock quintet, featuring a constant duel type of interaction between the guitar and violin. Theirs is a musical ambience similar to Sagrado, their potency close to KBB, and their delicately structured melodies in...

"I do a lot of sketching. Always have. Every idea I have gets fixed in the medium it came to me. Some sketches are conceptual (what would happen if I did xyz?) and go in my notebook. Some sketches come to me at the piano and get notated on scoring paper. And some sketches result directly from getting my hands dirty with sound-sculpting while working at the computer with software, or with electronic gear like stomp boxes. Those get recorded in the computer.
"Over the past year or so a new theme...

Hard to imagine a more powerful or intriguing, improvising power trio than these 3: Charles Hayward on drums (This Heat and Massacre), Kawabata Makoto (Acid Mothers Temple) and Guy Segers (Univers Zero).

“Essential reissue of the classic third album by pastoral British folk rockers Unicorn produced by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Originally released in 1976, it was their first for EMI's Harvest label in the UK and second for Capitol in the US.
The album combines impassioned 1970s West Coast vibes with Beatlesque melodies and tight performances. Indeed, the album, while remaining sonically consistent, enjoys shifting effortlessly between gritty country rockers like the Lindsey Buckingham sounding...

Fun and musically excellent octet featuring two trumpets, two trombones, bass trombone/euphonium/tuba, electric guitar, acoustic bass and drums. The band is led by trumpeter Darren Johnston, who writes most of the material. "Ecclectic, left of center...

"Heart, healing, and humanity have always been at the center of United Progressive Fraternity, with their goal of spreading connectedness and understanding across the world permeating everything they’ve done. Never before has their trademark synthesis of vibrantly sophisticated instrumentation and captivatingly meaningful songwriting felt as rewarding and resonant as on Planetary Overload, Part 2 – Hope, the spacious conclusion to the trilogy that began with 2014’s Fall in Love with the World and...

Unbelievably cool and avant-garde rock album (recorded in 1967 and released in 1968) by a band who was, imo, one of the three truly avant psychedelic US bands of the time (along with 50 Foot Hose and Silver Apples). The (in)famous Joseph Byrd led and provided keyboards and electronic music, Dorothy Moskowitz sang, Gordon Marron played electronic/ring modulated violin, Rarnd Forbes played fretless bass and Craig Woodson played drums.
If somewhat dated now in parts, the good stuff still raises a chill..

“Founded by vocalist/songwriter Mark “Truey” Trueack (United Progressive Fraternity) and multi-instrumentalist Sean Timms (Southern Empire, Damanek, UPF) in 1996, Australian sextet Unitopia have always been among the most renowned and distinctive bands of their ilk and era.
That’s true not only because of their engrossing, intricate, and vivacious blend of prog rock, jazz, classical, heavy rock, and world music, but also because of their contemplative examinations of universal topics such as human...

This set is a remaster of the highly successful 2008 double CD release.
Also included is a bonus disc of ‘extras’ including a new, 2020 song and 6 never-heard live renditions of songs from the album.

“I truly enjoyed this release by Unitopia from the first listen. There's an intriguing mix of new and old-school prog, an occasional burst of metal, and even a jazz flourish. This is a band brimming with inspiration and very imaginative songwriting with lots of interesting fills and runs. I...

New band from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, playing symphonic rock in the South American as most obviously typified by Sagrado Coracão da Terra and O Terço.

Founding members of the original "Rock In Opposition" [R.I.O.] movement and the inventors of "chamber rock", Univers Zero have continued to change and grow and develop over their entire career, while still keeping a ensemble sound and spirit that is...

"Since the late 70s, Univers Zero composer and drummer Daniel Denis has been pursuing his vision of a chamber music that borrows the energy and production of rock, especially working with stereo extremes, but with a classical ambiance."-John Diliberto/...

"Univers Zero's new album follows the lineage of Phosphorescent Dreams, the group’s last album. Lueur is the fruit of two years' work and reflection, the foundations of which were laid by Daniel Denis (keyboards, drums, percussion), then enriched by the contributions of Nicolas Dechêne (guitars), Kurt Budé (clarinet / bass clarinet) and Nicolas Denis (bass, percussion, vocals), all three present on Phosphorescent Dreams. With this reduced line-up, Lueur offers a dense journey, rooted in the balance...
