“Recorded live at BLO-Ateliers, Berlin, June 28, 2017. Orion Congregation is a live recording that perfectly captures the palpable raw excitement of a particularly memorable evening, the concluding date of a series of packed concerts which took place in various venues around Berlin in June 2017. Led by Ahmed Ag Kaedy's entrancing guitar licks, which seamlessly merge blues and rock with the traditional "Assouf"-style of his homeland, the pace soon quickens as the band pick up the gauntlet...

This is a Swedish concept album influenced by Frank Zappa (and probably a fair amount of dope!) assembled by Magnus Andersson (vocals, piano, mellotron, synths), Morgan Agren (drums), Mats Oberg (co-lead vocals), Peter Adolfsson & Mikke Ronnkvist (guit...

Melt Banana is one of Japan's most powerful and popular punk bands and at the center of it is the stinging guitar of Agata. Here he steps out on a rare solo outing created especially for Tzadik. Showing an amazing range of interests, a prodigious techn...

The second of their 2 'official' albums released during their lifetime. Recommended and essential early 70s German progressive rock.
Agitation Free were an instrumental, dual guitar oriented, somewhat 'jammy' oriented psychedelic/Krautrock outfit. In addition to the guitar, they are best known for giving the world synthesist/keyboardist Michael Hoenig.
This adds bouzouki, mellotron, 12-string guitar to their twin guitar, "Krautrock meets the most out moments of the Grateful Dead" sound.

Back in print and back in stock. This is a winner!

Some nice middle Eastern touches give this one the big thumbs up! This new edition includes a bonus, unreleased 15' live track and...

One of the greats of the Krautrock greats, their intertwining dual guitars with synths and rhythm section made them truly the intergalactic Grateful Dead. Nice to see that they are still burning and - based on this - burning brightly!...

Sophie Agnel, piano / John Edwards, double bass / Steve Noble, drums.

"Normally, a jazz piano trio is like a pyramid, with the pianist at the pointing top and both bassist and drummer on the left and right sides of the bottom. Not in the case...

Sophie Agnel-piano, Lionel Marchetti-electronics & tapes and Jrme Noetinger-electronics & tapes. An unusual improvised music session where two musique concrte composers work in a live situation with a improvising/jazz pianist. "The is an exciting encou...

Agora were a semi-obscure Italian jazz/rock band of the mid 1970s, who released two albums and then faded away. Their work was excellent quality Italian jazz rock ala Perigeo, Il Baricentro, Weather Report, etc. The band has gotten back together...

The first release on CD by this somewhat obscure Italian progressive fusion outfit, consisting of Fender Rhodes, guitar, soprano sax, bass and drums. There is also a little bit of vocals on this one. It's surprising that...

"Jimmy Ågren, a young dude from the Land of the Midnight Sun, come to teach us a thing or two about American music and one of its great fallen leaders. Ågren has a fascination for taking standard blues rhythms and allowing them to mutate into something...

Morgan Ågren is one of the great drummers of our time. Best known for his work with Mats/Morgan Band, he's also a fine composer and musical thinker.

Since the mid 2000s, one of his interests have been to combine the intense jazz/rock stylings...

Morgan Ågren is one of the great drummers of our time. Best known for his work with Mats/Morgan Band, he's also a fine composer and musical thinker.

Since the mid 2000s, one of his interests have been to combine the intense jazz/rock stylings of the Mats/Morgan's earlier work with more contemporary technology, stylings and sounds (think 'beats' and 'electronica'); while those words might scare some folks reading this away, if you liked the sound of "Thanks For Flying With Us" and "[schack tati]"..

"Composed for symphony orchestra and Mats/Morgan Band.
It is very rare to have a full symphony orchestra perform your own original music. So I feel very fortunate that Norrland Operan’s symphony orchestra will perform this, my music, live with Mats/Morgan Band in October 2016.
While waiting for that, I decided to release this Morgchestra CD, which is partly a MIDI-programmed version of the music that will be performed by the real orchestra in October. I began composing for this project late 2015.

Another fine live album from one of the many very good new Swedish progressive rock bands. Yes, you know these songs already, but you don’t know them in quite this form or way....

"In April 2018 Agusa embarked on a short tour in Italy. The first stop was at Stazione Birra in Rome where the show was recorded by the resident sound technician Alex Di Nunzio. The full gig – without any overdubs – will now be released on a double vinyl and CD by Kommun2 Records. The songs on "Ekstasis...

"This album, several years in the making, contains two sidelong tracks of flute rock extravaganza. Some records tend to deliver exactly what’s expected of them, but that’s not the case here. Instead AGUSA are exploring some uncharted sonic territories and you’ll probably be surprised by their progress. Be prepared!
This is AGUSA’s first studio release since their self-titled 2017 outing and the first one featuring new members Simon Ström (bass) and Roman Andrén (organ). The cover design is an...

''Klezmer, East European folk music, contemporary classical and Tuvan throat singing all came together in this astonishing music of Ahva Raba, one of the most original and distinctive Jewish groups based in contemporary Germany. With a repertory rangin...

"On Arrebato, their 8th album, Asheville's Ahleuchatistas embellish their trademark intensity with a more pensive and existential amble. These six pieces channel recollections of a natural kinship the band struck up with a number of communities they played to on an Iberian tour in early 2014. The resulting story threads together a suite of lyrical instrumentals showing a deepening meticulousness for structure—elastic and labyrinthine.

Spanish for "passionate outburst," Arrebato aptly evokes a...

Leaving audiences slack-jawed in amazement at South by Southwest, punk-rock dives across the USA and jazz festivals in Europe, the Ahleuchatistas and their unique, high-energy, instrumental, technical, undefinable trio music for guitar, bass and drums...

"Music doesn’t get much closer to the edge than this." –
Alternative Press

"...remarkably tight, with the ability to turn complicated and seemingly unrelated phrases on a dime." – NPR ...

Since their last release, Of the Body Prone, a lot has happened to Ahleuchatistas. Founding member, bassist Derek Poteat left the group and after a short tour with a different bassist (I saw that tour and it was amazing - as they always are)...

Ahleuchatistas are one of the greatest live bands working today. The insane and intense interplay between the 3 musicians on the stripped down line up of guitar/bass/drums is very unique and almost hard to believe unless you've actually seen them do it...

The below was obviously written by me a long time ago, when this album was first released and before our association with the group and also before the original, small label edition went out of print and Tzadik picked it up for reissue (in the "Full Force Composer Series" - yes, sir!) which includes bonus material. If you don't already own it, you've got no excuse now! But it does convey some of the amazement, excitement and stylistic confusion that this band gave to me upon stumbling across them with...

Third and best yet from this amazing instrumental, post-Beefheart, avant-technical, improv-core, math-metal, art-damage, punk-rock power trio from Asheville, NC.
Using the simple and classic skeleton of guitar, bass and drums, these three make powerful music that is undeniably 'rock' but is also undeniably much wider in musical influences than what one would imagine in such rock-based work.
For example, the opening song is Remember Rumsfeld at Abu Ghraib; of course we all know what that title...

This is one of the most life-changing albums that I have ever owned. Released in the west for the 1st time by Crammed in the mid 80s, it has been a part of my brain for 30 years.
Now it's remastered from the original tapes and expanded and better than ever.

"Recorded over a three-year period from 1975-1978 (though much of it was recorded in 1975), this is Ahmed's crowning work, a record so sublime, passionate and demanding, that numerous plays only hint at its greatness. Despite...

“Bahraini-British performer, Yazz Ahmed, is transforming what jazz means in 2017. This trumpet and flugelhorn-playing artist has worked with Radiohead and These New Puritans, experiments with electronic effects, and combines sounds from her shared heritage to author a new narrative for the genre. Part of the new wave of artists credited with stirring up the sound, including Kamasi Washington, Yussef Kamaal, Sons of Kemet and The Comet is Coming, Yazz Ahmed is thrilled by the possibilities of making...

“Polyhymnia is the third full-length from British-Bahraini trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Yazz Ahmed. Her remarkable meld of post-bop jazz, Arabic folk traditions, and electronic sound design has brought her to a prominent and influential place on London's vibrant jazz scene. Like 2017's La Saboteuse, the album is adorned with a stunning six-panel sleeve design by Sophie Bass. The music here is an extended suite-like work commissioned by Tomorrow's Warriors in 2015. It was performed by members of...

The Israeli band Ahvak, named after the Hebrew word for Dust, creates music of dark, ominous and compelling beauty. Ahvak's mesmerizing and electrified version of chamber rock blurs the boundary lines between styles and aligns the band with forward-thi...

"Aida Severo, the free jazz ensemble led by pianist Philip Somervell, spent a day in the studios of Trinity College, London – the result was this, their first CD. The music, based on compositions by members of the group, builds free jazz improvisation...

Long unavailable, this is the group's first album from 1980 and which impressed a lot of progressive rock fans when it came out, as 1980 wasn't exactly a banner year for progressive jazz rock with Canterbury underpinnings! Very pleasing Camel/Caravan/Canterbury influenced progressive performed on keyboards, guitar, bass and drums.
Now it's available again at a reasonable price, especially for a Japanese release, as a special blu-spec CD release!

"After some years of hard struggling in the....

“Ain Soph are a band to be recognised alongside Kenso, KBB, Asturias or Bi Kyo Ran for the quality of their musicianship and composition. With 4 excellent studio albums to their credit over their 30 years together, this release compiles previously unpublished live in the studio recordings, taken between 1985 and 1988, of pieces most of which had appeared on the Canterburyesque Hat and Fields as well as one new number from 2005.
Two unreleased works, "Flight" and "Odessa", front the album. "Flight"...

“It's been 17 years since AINUR decided to turn Tolkien's masterpiece "The Silmarillion" into music. Each member of the band was immersed in their own compositional emphasis, inspired by Tolkien mythology. As if hypnotized, they began to compose profusely all the themes of the main characters, and began to imagine the colossal concept they have been working on so far. The eagerly awaited new album "War of The Jewels" is released by Rockshots Records, and sees the band embark on an interesting evolution...

“It’s been 4 years, but finally the fifth album from Airbag will be released on Karisma Records, and it has definitely been worth the wait.
“A Day at the Beach” features six new songs recorded during autumn and winter of 2019-20. Inspired by the resurgence of 1980s electronica, new wave and movie scores, Airbag has created a powerful sound combining ethereal soundscapes with their signature guitar driven progressive rock. The result is a stunning selection of songs revealing a mature band looking...

This set comes with a CD and a DVD, both featuring the original streamed session.

“After the success of "A Day at the Beach" in the summer of 2020, Airbag really wanted to showcase the songs in a live setting. Alas, due to all the covid-19 restrictions, a normal tour or normal shows wasn’t a reality. Instead, the band went into Subsonic Society Studio in Oslo, where they recorded their last studio albums, to perform an acoustic set streamed in the early autumn of last year.
As the band...

Disconnected is the fourth release by this Norwegian band, who have gained a lot of fans for their modern channeling of Pink Floyd and their 'feel'.

In reading background about them, everything I read made it sound like that's all they do, and I definitely didn't hear it. Yes, there is a strong Floyd influence, circa the last great period of the band with Roger (Wish You Were Here & Animals), but there's also a lot of modern influences, such as Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson, Radiohead, etc.

CD Digi sleeve; in a special limited deluxe version with a 12 page booklet and die-cut sleeve.

"Identity was the debut album from Oslos biggest prog band – Airbag.
Airbag has created their own, unique sound with elements of classic and progressive rock, chill and jazz, influenced by artist from a wide range of genres, from Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree to Talk Talk, Radiohead and Marillion (Steve Hogarth era).
The album comprises eight songs with Airbag’s unique sound of classic...

"West Coast Consortium spinoff Airbus never played live or even released a record during their 1970-1972 lifespan, instead spending their entire subterranean existence holed up in their self-owned Whitechapel studio, writing and performing innumerable high quality demos and then attempting to place those songs with major label acts.
But, more by accident than design, they came to leave behind THE Great Lost Early 70s British Pop Album - a jaw-dropping collision of superb songs, dazzling vocal...

Don Airey is a first-call keyboard player, probably best known for his work in the hard rock arena with Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Deep Purple, etc. and also into progressive rock and jazz/rock with Jethro Tull, Colosseum II, Gary Moore and others.

This, his first solo album released under his own name, features some big name guests: Gary Moore, Cozy Powell and Colin Blunstone among others.

"As a fan of concept albums, I almost passed on this one based on previous reviews. Now I'm glad I..

This reissue, the first time it has been available in 30 years, is limited to only 1,000 copies world-wide! The album was originally released on the small independent Montuno Record label (which was run out of the unassuming Record Mart record store situated in the Times Square underground subway station)!!

“The impact of Airto Moreira in both the world of American jazz and in Brazilian music is unparalleled. At the start of the 1970s Airto was invited to join Miles Davis’ groundbreaking...

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, the Belgian electric jazz trio of Fabrizio Cassol (sax), Michel Hatzigeorgiou (elec bass) & Stéphane Galland (drums) are re-releasing their entire output (plus!) in one very specially priced set!

"Since 1992, the year Aka Moon was formed, a series of albums has marked the history of the legendary jazz trio, which this set of twenty CDs now gives you a chance to relive. After a journey of initiation in Central Africa with the Aka Pygmies, Fabrizio Cassol...

"Aka Moon is celebrating. On the occasion of their twenty-five years existence, a twenty-volume overview box Constellations has been released, but also a new album Now .
With this title, Aka Moon, the group around alto saxophonist Fabrizio Cassol, bassist Michel Hatzigeorgiou and drummer Stephane Galland, already indicates what it is all about, namely the present, the here-and-now.
On the new album Now you can hear how the group, to a certain extent, clings to the vast past (for example you...

“Jan Akkerman, the renowned Dutch guitarist who shot to fame during the 1960s and 1970s with bands like Focus, Brainbox and The Hunters, and was once voted Best Guitarist in the World by Melody Maker.
Close Beauty is inspired from a simple notion, that when you are too close to an object you cannot see the real value. The instrumental album came together organically...
