" IL CASTELLO DI ATLANTE, a quintet (Guitar, bass, drums, keyboards-vocals & violin) born in the mid-Seventies, only issued their first album in 1992. The line-up performs an airy symphonic rock, ethereal and pastoral, completely influenced by the...

Il Castello di Atlante formed in the 1970s in Italy, but like many of the Italian groups (there really were huge numbers of progressive bands in Italy in the 1970s), Il Castello never had the chance to record or release anything during that time. Unlike..

Castle Canyon were a early/mid 70s, mostly instrumental progressive rock band. Their bassist was Fred Chalenor, later of Hughscore, Curlew, etc. The keyboardist and composer, Erik Ian Walker got two of the 3 original members of the band back together (Fred appears just as a guest) to record material from back in the day that never had a chance to be recorded. It's quite great in a retro/ELP/keyboard trio way, but hey - they're retro because they are actually from way back then!

"The greatest band..

This is the self-released 1st album by a new Rock Progressivo Italiano band who feature: Edoardo Capparucci: sax, bassoon, flute / Daniele Alfieri: piano, keyboards / Luigi Piergentili: guitars / Edoardo Cicchinelli: bass guitar / Stefano Vestrini:...

"It seems appropriate that California folkie Nick Castro has invitingly titled his new record Come Into Our House, since it's clear from the opening notes that he wants his listeners to feel comfortable. For his third album, Castro has again returned t...

Beaming warmly from the underground enclaves of Los Angeles, CA like a lambent ray of soft sunlight, the music of Nick Castro is breathing fresh life and pristine wonderment into an old sound. Castro released a beguiling album called A Spy in the House...

Bruno Figueira saxofone and effects
Duarte Fonseca drums
João Clemente guitar and magnets
João Lucas bass and effects

“You already know three members of this Portuguese band – alto saxophonist Bruno Figueira, guitarist João Clemente and drummer Duarte Fonseca – from Slow is Possible. The other is bassist João Lucas, also born in Portugal but living and working in Holland. His deep and acid bass sound is the axis of everything happening in “Cat in a Bag”. Sometimes it reminds you.

The first album by this French improvising/new music ensemble that always features Jac Berrocal (trumpet, voice, trombone) & Jean-Francois Pauvros (guitar), and on this album also features Patrick Prado (alto sax, harmonium, voice), Michel Potage (voic...

Catalyst were a really great jazz-rock/kozmigroov band based on our Philadelphia in the early/mid 1970s. The most famous members of the group were Alphonso Johnson on bass (who left early on to join Weather Report) and Odeon Pope on saxes, but all...

“A progressive rock band from the UK featuring Damien Child, Gary Jevon and Greg Pringle
A band that grew out of the UK pandemic lockdown when three musicians sought a creative outlet.
Despite never having met in person, the result is a captivating album of modern progressive rock that showcases the varied influences of the individual members.
No surprise when you consider who each is and their background:
Vocalist Damien Child (ESP), guitarist Gary Jevon (This Winter Machine) and...

Philip Catherine - guitar
Marc Moulin - electric piano
Giggs Whigham - trombone
Freddy Deronde - bass, flute
Freddy Rothier - drums

This is the very first album by the great Belgian guitarist Philip Catherine that no one has seen or owns, but which you can now! And without paying $500 to do so!
Originally released by Warner Music France in 1972, not only is this a legit release, but the original 8 track tapes have been were remixed in 2016 with the oversight of Philip! So t

"Live In Copenhagen captures Causa Sui at two very special nights: at the release parties of Euporie Tide and Return To Sky. Since the band seldomly performs live, this may very well be the best chance to experience what the band are capable of at their best. One show was recorded at avant-garde institution extraordinaire, Jazzhouse, while the other captures Causa Sui at legendary underground venue Dragens Hule.
Both shows were recorded multitrack with an A-grade selection of mics. During these...

Another great one from a band with two previous killer releases! This is great, space/stoner/kraut rock for the modern age. Highly recommended!

"This Danish four-piece unashamedly reference such esteemed cosmic talents as Blue Cheer, Guru Guru...

While our limited quantities last, you can get this brand new album for $6.00 off the regular price! But there's a set number and when they are gone, they're gone!!

Jonas Munk: guitars and electronics; Jess Kahr: bass; Jakob Skøtt, drums and percussion; Rasmus Rasmussen: keys and electronics.

"Causa Sui are back with Return To Sky, the successor to 2013's Euporie Tide, which consolidated the band as a crucial underground force in the European psych scene and spread their unique...

“Szabodelico represents a different side of Causa Sui. While the band always had one foot in heavy psychedelic rock, the other one stood deep in a wide variety of esoteric styles. On this release that other dimension of Causa Sui gets explored full-scale. 'Szabodelico' paints with a colourful palette, both compositionally and sonically, and digs deep into an assortment of cultures, eras and sounds with a true crate-digger mindset.”

"Each of these four epic tracks is a testament to the fact that Causa Sui have carved out a singular niche for themselves, where vintage Sabbath-isms are filtered through a distinctively post-modern ethos. Causa Sui's brand of rock conveys everything that's so great about fuzzed-out heaviness, yet there's something about it that makes the listening experience far from trivial. In stark contrast to the standards of the stoner/doom scenes, Causa Sui manage to be weighty and peaceful at the same; forceful, yet

It's really nice to see this French guitar obscurity from the early 80's reissued so nicely with a fat booklet telling Philippe's history and including 5 bonus tracks. Philippe was the leader of the fusion/progressive band Uppsala and also had a career...

'Disciple of the wizards', One of the greatest French virtuosos of the guitar", "A new trouvere", "A modern griot"... Here are a few sentences chosen by the French press at the beginning of the Eighties, to qualify Philippe Cauvin's works. The leader o...

One of the earliest artists on the Musea label was this guitarist who specialized in acoustic guitar-based progressive sounds that were very distinctive. It's great to have him back with a new album, the first from him in a very long time...

Tremendously great fourth full-length release by this Chicago based modern motorik / psychedelic ensemble. I just saw them and the groove just killed and killed. Recommended!

“Tremors rhythmically shaking your place—the air’s gone electric! You’ve seen this kind of weather before… you weren’t expecting it today. This is the beginning of Allways. CAVE are kind of beyond time, though. You might feel like it’s been awhile since you’ve seen or heard them, but when you see or hear them again, that...

"Welcome to the season of the Psychic Psummer. Important Records' dream come true -- a full length studio album from Chicago's Cave. Major momentum expertly crafted and embracing maximum minimalism, repetition, Can cloud-bounce & full on heavy chant...

“The third in a string of awesome full-length adventures from Chicago’s CAVE is Threace—an album that appeals on all levels: animal, abstract and alien, and all at once; one multi-colored-circa-2013 grab-bang. Threace is a real “back to the lab” kind of album for CAVE —with a few more guitars and a few less keyboards on board, the band is energized and ready to try things in a new way. All CAVE music grabs at your ears and the soft tissue within, and yet this time, it’s just so much more super....

"The new debut album by Italian Progressive Rock trio CCLR Cavalli-Cocchi, Lanzetti & Roversi. The trio is fronted by former PFM and Acqua Fragile vocalist Bernardo Lanzetti who is joined by Gigi Cavalli-Cocchi (Mangala Vallis) on drums and percussion...

The first of three Hughscore albums. This was the first collaboration between UK bassist/composer Hugh Hopper (Soft Machine, Gilgamesh, Isotope and so much more!) & Seattle band Caveman Shoestore (hence the name).
This is where I first heard (and heard of) keyboardist/vocalist Elaine DiFalco (now with Thinking Plague).

After many, many years, this is an all new recording by the band who later mutated into Hughscore. What a great thing to have happen in 2005; a new album after a full decade! This features Fred Chalenor on bass/fuzz bass/stick, Elaine diFalco on Rhodes & Wurlitzer pianos, Hammond B3 organ, vibes, analog keyboards and vocals (she's a great singer) and Henry Franzoni-drums. Solid songs, fine singing, some weird studio effects that work nicely and great playing, this is very reminiscent of Hughscore, except...

"Cavern Of Anti-Matter return for their third studio album on their own Duophonic label. Hormone Lemonade sees the band heavily utilizing the sounds of modular synths and home built drum machines, yet still keeping the loose, improvised sound familiar to fans of their first two albums, with minimal guitar melodies and live drum kit helping to build hypnotic layers of texture.
The albums genesis was in the self-constructed rhythm machines of band member Holger Zapf, the Taktron Z3 and Taktron Z2...

Charlie is best known as the bassist of Knifeworld, but he has a lot of music and styles up his sleeve and he caught me by surprise with his great first solo release.
I wasn’t surprised by this one, because I was already aware that this wasn’t going to be a ‘rock’ or ‘prog’ album and it isn’t. He delivers something between systems music, chamber music and folk music; as said about his first, The Divine Abstract, comparable (but not ‘sounding like’) an acoustic-guitar led ensemble like Aranis or...

Charlie is best known as the bassist of Knifeworld, but he has a lot of music and styles up his sleeve.
The Divine Abstract is his first solo album and on it he plays acoustic, electric & classical guitars, Fender VI, acoustic & electric bass guitars, sitar & pipa.
He's joined by a huge array of guest musicians
Katharine Blake: treble & sopranino recorders
Lucy Brown: French horn
Flora Curzon: violin
Hannah Davis: vibraphone, glockenspiel

Pretty excellent cross between stoner rock, space rock and early Sabbath riffing.

“Coming at you like the bastard son of early Pink Floyd and any period Hendrix, CB3(Charlottas Burning Trio) waste no time in getting to grips with their revved up space rock and roll. Greased out riffs to the max, it may be all too Neanderthal but their back to basics approach is just what you need for a heady Saturday night in the land of getting high. Top grade monster psych-heads, the Swedish band have never...

Pretty excellent cross between stoner rock, space rock and early Sabbath riffing.

“'Exploration' is the first part of a space adventure where a daydreaming character physically enters his dreams which then become reality. Heavy psych, even heavier jams, progressive rhythms and form structures promise to take the listener beyond the constructs of space and time. Stars above, evil below and fire in between. A trinity in peace for aeons. CB3 (Charlottas Burning Trio) is here to bring you on a...

“Visions is the second studio album by the Argentinian CDG PROJECT; featuring six tracks of pure bombastic, intense progressive symphonic rock with a harder edge.
Led by the keyboardist and drummer of Retsam Surviv, and joined by guest guitarists, the musicians deliver a dynamic, instrumental, symphonic rock with harder-edged guitar play and sumptuous keyboards..

Étienne Ziemniak drums, voice
Fulco Ottervanger piano, keyboards, voice
Luis Lopes guitar
Valentin Ceccaldi cello

"It’s about colors and intensity here.
The cellist Valentin Ceccaldi invites three of the most singular and creative musicians of the European improvised music scene; the explosive drums of Etienne Ziemniak, the incandescent guitar of Luis Lopes and the rainbow keyboards of Fulco Ottervanger. Together they create a music of surprise: solar, powerful and generous....

Joachim Badenhorst clarinet, bass clarinet, tenor sax
Guillermo Celano electric guitar
Marcos Baggiani drums

"Guillermo Celano and Marcos Baggiani are outstanding personalities in the Amsterdam creative jazz and free improvised music scene, where they co-lead the project C.B.G (acronym for Celano/Baggiani Group).
In 2013 and specially for the Composition Assignment of the North Sea Jazz Festival, they came forth with a new line up of this band, one of the musicians being the Belgium..

“Finally the CELESTE project - “CELESTE with CELESTIAL Symphony Orchestra” has come to an end. Months and months of intense work dividing himself between three recording studios, involving dozens of musicians (of Classical, Rock and Jazz culture and preparation), as well as the traditional ones of the Band, Sound Engineers and Sound Designers among the best. Over 2 years dedicated to writing, arrangements and orchestrations of 13 new compositions.
The result is now 72 minutes of intense and engaging..

Celeste recorded a stone classic 1976 symphonic release that is a very beautiful & brilliant pastoral masterpiece featuring lots of acoustic guitar, fronted by flute & mellotron, as well as more overtly rock sounding parts, but even at their most rock based, strongly acoustic!
This is a collection of tests, outtakes, tryouts, rehearsals, etc etc.
It will never replace their original release, but this is well worth having and hearing if you like that sound.

"The frantic slam of NYC quartet Cellular Chaos draws a bit on the no-wave leanings of their guitarist Weasel Walter as well as the quivering frenzy of his excellent 1990s band Lake of Dracula. But there's something of-the-moment about their sound too, especially in the urgency of singer Admiral Grey... Cellular Chaos' fire has a singular crackle, one that sounds pretty
